Investment Banking Deal Toys & Financial Tombstones

Custom deal markers for M&A, financings, IPOs and the teams behind the transaction.

Polaris designs and produces custom investment banking deal toys and financial tombstones. Each piece is designed around the transaction itself—a tangible reminder of the deal, the client relationship and the people who made it happen.

More Than a Record of the Transaction

Traditional financial tombstones preserve the essential facts: the parties, transaction type, value, date and advisors. A great deal toy does something more. It captures something distinctive about the company, asset, industry, geography or strategy behind the transaction.

That distinction matters. Investment bankers accumulate deal markers over the course of a career. The pieces that remain memorable are rarely the ones with the most decoration. They are the ones with a clear idea behind them.

Transactions We Commemorate

  • Mergers & acquisitions
  • Sell-side and buy-side advisory assignments
  • Debt and equity financings
  • IPOs and public offerings
  • Recapitalizations and restructurings
  • Private placements
  • Strategic investments and partnerships
  • Portfolio company acquisitions and exits

Whether the right answer is a restrained crystal piece or a highly customized sculptural design, the form should follow the story and purpose of the deal.

Designing Around the Story of the Deal

The strongest concept often comes from one defining element: the company’s product, a recognizable asset, the transaction structure, a location, a visual metaphor, or even an inside reference meaningful to the team, like the project’s code name.

If you have design ideas—a sense of what you’d like to see in the deal toy—that’s great. We’re happy to bring your idea to reality. But you don’t need to have a design idea to get started. Send us the information you have and let the creative process do its job.

We consider the design and the manufacturing process together from the beginning. The concept needs to look good in a rendering, but it also needs to work as a physical object, at the required quantity, within the budget and on the closing schedule.

“After thousands of deal marker projects, I still approach each transaction as its own design problem. The goal isn't simply to put the tombstone text into an object. It's to find the idea that makes that particular deal worth remembering.”

— John Hathaway, Deal Toy Expert, Polaris Custom Awards

What We Need to Get Started

  • Final deal text, or a working draft
  • Logos for the firms involved, preferably vector artwork
  • Quantity and target budget or budget range
  • Delivery date and delivery location or locations

That is enough to begin. You don’t need to choose Lucite versus crystal, determine dimensions, create a layout or solve the manufacturing details—unless, of course, you want to. We’ll work with what you give us.

Materials That Fit the Idea

Lucite / Acrylic — Exceptionally versatile for layered graphics, embedded objects, custom shapes and colorful designs.

Crystal / Optical Glass — Weighty, polished and formal, with crisp etching, bevels and a premium presentation.

Resin / 3D Models — Well suited to miniature products, buildings, vehicles and sculptural elements that cannot be achieved effectively with flat graphics alone.

Metal, Wood & Hybrid Construction — Useful when the concept calls for additional texture, contrast, structural elements or a more architectural presentation.

The material is not the idea. We select materials and production methods based on what best serves the concept, budget, quantity and deadline.

Built Around the Closing Calendar

Investment banking schedules move. Deal text changes. Dates shift. Approvals arrive late. Sometimes the request itself comes late.

Our process is built around those realities. Polaris works directly with experienced production partners and designs with manufacturing in mind from the beginning, allowing us to identify practical options quickly and avoid unnecessary handoffs.

Every production job includes a prototype for internal quality control. When client review of the physical sample is useful, we can arrange that; when timing or a repeat design makes an in-hand review unnecessary, we can use detailed photography or video as appropriate.

We will tell you what is realistically achievable and build the production schedule around the date that matters.

Who Receives Investment Banking Deal Toys?

Deal toys may be ordered for the internal banking team, the client, executives, board members, legal counsel and other advisors involved in the transaction. Distribution varies from deal to deal, but the underlying purpose is consistent: recognizing the people and relationships behind the outcome.

For bankers, a collection of deal toys can become a physical record of a career. For clients, the right piece is also a lasting reminder of the advisory team that helped bring an important transaction across the finish line.

Why Polaris

Investment banking clients do not need another layer between themselves and the people doing the work.

At Polaris, you work directly with experienced creative and production professionals. We combine decades of deal-toy experience with hands-on knowledge of Lucite, crystal, resin, metal and small-batch custom manufacturing.

That experience helps us move quickly, identify problems before production, and recommend what makes sense for the deal rather than simply what is easiest to manufacture.

  • Fast, on-target concepts
  • Totally custom design
  • Direct access to experienced creatives
  • Hands-on manufacturing knowledge
  • Prototype-based quality control
  • Deadline-driven production planning
  • Global delivery

Investment Banking Deal Toy FAQs

What is an investment banking deal toy?

An investment banking deal toy is a custom commemorative object created to mark a completed financial transaction. Often called a financial tombstone, Lucite or deal marker, it typically incorporates the transaction details and may use imagery, shapes, materials or objects that tell the story of the deal.

What types of transactions are appropriate for deal toys?

M&A transactions, IPOs, debt and equity financings, recapitalizations, restructurings, private placements and other significant advisory assignments are commonly commemorated with deal toys.

How early should we start?

Earlier gives us more design and production flexibility, but investment banking projects often begin on compressed schedules. Send the information you have and your required delivery date. We can recommend the most reliable path based on the current timeline.

Do we need final tombstone text before design starts?

No. Draft text is enough to begin concept development. Final copy can be incorporated before production approval.

Can you design the piece if we do not have an idea?

Yes. Most clients provide the transaction information, logos, quantity, budget and deadline and rely on us to develop the concept. If you already have an idea, we can develop that too.

How much do investment banking deal toys cost?

Cost depends on quantity, size, materials and complexity. Straightforward Lucite or crystal pieces can be economical, while sculptural models and hybrid constructions require more production work. Providing a target budget helps us design toward the right solution from the beginning.

How long does production take?

Timing varies by material and complexity. A typical project is often completed in roughly three to four weeks, although some designs require longer and faster schedules may be possible. We plan backward from your required delivery date.

Can you ship to multiple offices or recipients?

Yes. Projects can be coordinated for delivery to one location or multiple destinations, including international shipments.
